Australia call-up Suliasi Vunivalu in squad for Rugby Championship

Australia head coach Dave Rennie has called-up Suliasi Vunivalu in the squad for the remainder of the Rugby Championship tournament.

Vunivalu started his rugby league career with Melbourne Storm in 2016 and recently helped the side to another NRL Premiership. He also represented Fiji in the rugby league but converted to union after he was signed by Queensland Reds ahead of the 2021 season.

During his time with NRL, he enjoyed NRL titles with the Melbourne side in 2017 and 2020 along with Minor Premiership titles in the 2016, 2018 and 2019 editions.

“I want to come back and finish off here [at the Storm] some day,” Vunivalu said after Melbourne’s grand final win.

“I’m still having second thoughts about [the move to rugby], to be honest. I want to stay but I’ve got to take that new challenge for myself.”

The news first broke in The Sydney Morning Herald was confirmed by Rugby Australia's official website and depending on his Covid-19 test result, the 24-year-old will link up with the Wallabies squad ahead of their Rugby Championship game against Argentina on 21st November.
