Wales captain Sam Warburton has been ruled out of the upcoming autumn international game against South Africa at Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

The Cardiff Blues back-row suffered a stinger injury during training on Tuesday and felt discomfort in the shoulder and neck area forcing one change to the Wales line-up that defeated Japan last weekend.

Dan Lydiate will now move to the back-row alongside Ross Moriarty and Justin Tipuric while Gethin Jenkins will take over the captaincy in the absence of Warburton.

Bath number eight Taulupe Faletau also returns to the bench after proving his fitness in the Aviva Premiership clash against Bristol last week.

Sam Davies, who saved Wales with a last minute drop goal against Japan will continue to be on the bench with Dan Biggar being the preferred fly-half. Jamie Roberts is again dropped to bench with Scott Williams replacing him and will be partnering with Jonathan Davies at centre.

"We've made just one change in the back-row. Sam (Warburton) picked up a bit of a stinger injury on Tuesday and isn't quite ready so Dan comes in. Dan played particularly well against Japan so we are pleased he gets the opportunity again," said Wales interim coach Rob Howley.

"It's good to have Taulupe back in the squad, he will add a good impact from the bench. We are delighted with Sam, he showed individual composure and accuracy last weekend and he gets another opportunity on the bench, as he did against Australia.

"There is the tinge of disappointment in terms of performance against Japan and we want to put that right. Not only are we looking to win this weekend we want a performance to go with it."
