Ospreys have confirmed that Wales centre Owen Watkin will be out of action for at least eight weeks after undergoing a surgery on his knee.

The 23-year-old sustained a knee injury during the 17th minute in the European Champions Cup home fixture against Racing 92 at Liberty Stadium earlier this month and has now gone under the knife.

The news was confirmed by a statement from the Welsh regional club.

“Owen injured his knee in the home fixture v Racing 92,” the statement read.

“A small cartilage tear was confirmed and surgery to deal with the tear was deemed to be the best course of treatment for Owen.

“He is expected to be out of action for up to 8 weeks.”

Meanwhile, Wales fly-half Gareth Anscombe has undergone a second operation on his knee after suffering the blow during the World Cup warm-up game in August.

Ospreys currently are at the sixth place in the Conference A of the Pro 14 after managing a solitary win from eight games.
