Wales and British and Irish Lions full-back Liam Williams is set to become the latest player to leave Cardiff ahead of the new season.

According to a BBC report, Williams has been linked with a move to Japan despite two year of contract left as the club is facing a £2m budget cut next season.

In the process he also becomes the 17th player to leave Cardiff this summer and joins the list of Joe Hawkins (Exeter), Cory Hill (Japan), Rhys Webb (Biarritz), Tom Francis (Provence), Ross Moriarty (Brive), Will Rowlands (Racing 92) and Dillon Lewis (Harlequins) in the international players moving abroad.

Despite his move to Japan, Williams will still be eligible to represent Wales in the upcoming World Cup with 84 caps to his name.

Gareth Anscombe, Leigh Halfpenny and Rhys Patchell are already without a club after released by their respective clubs.

Williams started his career with Scarlets in 2010 and after over 100 appearances for the Welsh province, he moved to Saracens in 2017 before joining Cardiff last year. His move to Japan will be subject to medical clearance considering his past injury records.
