Bulls have announced that World Cup winning South Africa international Sbu Nkosi has been released early from his contract with immediate effect.

The 27-year-old joined Bulls from Sharks in 2022 from Sharks but had a troubled season as he was reported missing in December last year and was eventually found at the residence of his father in Mpumalanga. He also admitted that he has been battling mental issues.

Even though he made few appearances for the club earlier in the year, he did not feature for them at the end of the season with the statement adding “the player looks to pursue his rugby elsewhere”.

“I would like to thank Sbu for all that he has contributed towards our campaigns during his time with us," said Blue Bulls Chief Executive Officer Edgar Rathbone.

“I know that it wasn’t an easy time for him personally, but I am confident that the support we provided to him was invaluable.”

“Having a Springbok wing of his calibre in our team has been a pleasure.

“I know that he now feels as though it is the best time to move on and we respect his wishes.”

He last played for World Rugby XV in the game against Barbarians at Twickenham Stadium in May.
