Stade Francais have announced the signing of Scotland international Josh Strauss on loan ahead of the 2019/20 season.

The 32-year-old will remain with the French club for three months and will provide cover during the World Cup.

"We have several absentees in our squad following wounds or players selected for the World Cup so we started looking for an experienced profile to help our group's youth," said head coach Heyneke Meyer.

"Josh has played for the Scottish national team, has a lot of experience, but most of all, he will give us his leadership. I'm glad he joins the club. "

Strauss spent most of his domestic career with Glasgow Warriors between 2012 and 2017 following which he moved to Sale Sharks and has featured in 36 Premiership games for the AJ Bell Stadium outfit.

He has also featured in 24 Tests for Scotland since his debut in 2015 but was left out of the World Cup squad by head coach Gregor Townsend. Following the stint with Stade Francais, he will head to South Africa to join Bulls ahead of the 2020 Super Rugby season.
