Blues have confirmed that both Rieko and Akira Ioane have penned new deals with the Super Rugby club.

The news comes despite reports of the duo being linked up with Hurricanes.

Ahead of the game this weekend against Blues, Hurricanes head coach John Plumtree admitted to try to secure the signing of Akira Ioane but both the brothers have decided to stay committed to the Auckland franchise despite a poor Super Rugby season.

“They’re both committed in terms of the last discussions we’ve had and obviously we’re very happy about it,” Tana Umaga told the NZ Herald.

“It’s important to retain all the talent we have and those guys especially because they’re playing well and mean a lot to our club and region. To get those nods from them is really positive for us as a whole.”

Reiko, who has played for New Zealand in 16 Tests made his professional rugby debut with Auckland regional side and his Super Rugby debut with Blues came a year later while Akira has been with Blues since 2015.

Blues are currently languishing at the bottom of New Zealand Conference with four wins from 14 games.
