South Africa fly-half Pat Lambie has been ruled out of the third Test against Ireland in Port Elizabeth after failing to sufficiently recover from the concussion he suffered in the opening game of the series in Cape Town.

Lambie was struck on the head by an airborne collision from Ireland flanker CJ Stander which forced him out of the second Test as well and Stade Francais fly-half Morne Steyn was added as a replacement in the squad.

Springboks team doctor Konrad von Hagen confirmed that Lambie hasn't sufficiently recovered from the concussion and will be unavailable for selection for the deciding game.

Meanwhile, Stander, who was suspended for a week for the offence will return back to the Ireland squad for the third Test.

Elton Jantjies, who was included in the Springboks line-up in the place of Lambie for the second Test, scored 12 points in the game which South Africa won by 32-26.

Number eight Duane Vermeulen and replacements Trevor Nyakane and Warren Whiteley are doubtful starters for the third Test after suffering from elbow, ankle and shoulder injuries respectively in the recently concluded game.
