England coach Eddie Jones has announced that Owen Farrell will be taking over from George Ford as the preferred fly-half for the tournament opener against Australia in Brisbane on Saturday.

The Bath fly-half had a disappointing outing against Wales in the Old Mutual Wealth Cup, where he missed six out of the seven kicks at the goal.

On the other hand, Farrell has been in top form and played a significant role in Saracens' double triumph of European Champions Cup and Aviva Premiership victories in 2015-16 season.

The 24-year-old finished as the leading point-scorer in the 2015/16 season of Champions Cup with 127 points and also managed the ninth rank in the Aviva Premiership season.

Northampton Saints’ Luther Burrell, who controversially lost his place to Sam Burgess in the 2015 World Cup is in line to start at inside centre over Auckland-born rugby league convert Ben Te'o.

Burrell was named as a replacement for Manu Tuilagi, who was ruled out by a hamstring injury and he made a try-scoring return for England during the encounter against Wales.

The other noteworthy change has been the inclusion of Harlequins' Marland Yarde on the right wing over Jack Nowell as England are in bid to win their maiden Test series victory over the Wallabies in Australia.
