Ospreys will be heading into the European Challenge Cup play-off without their veteran lock Alun Wyn Jones, who is sidelined with a shoulder injury.

The Wales skipper suffered the blow during the final round of the recently concluded Six Nations encounter against France where he was replaced in the 51st minute.

The news was confirmed by a statement released by the Welsh Rugby Union, which revealed a minimum of six-week rehabilitation period for the 31-year-old.

"Alun Wyn suffered a shoulder injury in the France v Wales RBS 6 Nations match at the weekend and, following scans and orthopaedic consultation, he will undergo an initial six-week period of rehabilitation," read the statement.

The injury also casts a doubt on Jones' participation in the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand in June where he was one of the contenders for leading the side.
