Argentina 59-5 Chile, Pool D, Stade de la Beaujoire

Argentina have boosted their chances of reaching the quarter-final as they sealed a 59-5 victory over Chile in their Pool D clash of the Rugby World Cup at Stade de la Beaujoire on Saturday.

Argentina now move to the second place in the table with nine points and now will face Japan in the deciding game at Stade de la Beaujoire on 8th October while Chile finish at bottom after losing all their four matches. The result also eliminated Samoa's chances of making to the next round.

Argentina made a promising start to the game as Nicolas Sanchez celebrated his 100th cap as he brushed away a tackle from Rodrigo Fernandez to dive in the corner for the opening try. Sanchez kicked the conversion and followed with a penalty goal after centre Lucio Cinti was replaced due to an injury.

Michael Cheika's men extended their lead further as Juan Martín González touched down after a spinning rumbling maul and Sanchez kicked the extras to make it 17-0. The gap further increased as the Sanchez kicked the ball to the corner with Argentina winning a line out and eventually Agustin Creevy sneaked past over around the maul.

Sanchez followed with the conversion to extend the Pumas' lead to 24-0 before Argentina were down to 14 players temporarily with Rodrigo Isgro sin-binned for a high tackle on Fernandez. Argentina had a try disallowed from Facundo Isa but despite that they were in a position of strength having completed the opening half with a 24-0 lead.

The bonus point for the Pumas came early in the second half as Sanchez and Cubelli combined to send fullback Martin Bogado over the line in the 46th minute. Sanchez, who had an impressive game sent a pass to Rodrigo Isgro, who dotted down making it 38-0.

The onslaught from Argentina continued as González secured his second try after good work from Isa and Sanchez, who kicked the extras to make it 45-0. The only response from Chile came in the 73rd minute with Tomas Dussaillant dotting down before tries from Ignacio Ruiz and Santiago Carreras ensured Argentina completed a 54 point victory.
