Ian Madigan scored 19 points to drive Leinster to a 24-11 Guinness Pro12 victory over Ulster at the RDS Arena.

Leinster managed to take a 9-6 lead into the break despite being on the back foot for most of the first half thanks to three Madigan penalties - the last coming after Ulster's Dan Tuohy was yellow carded.

Ulster should have been ahead especially since injury robbed Leinster of their captain Jamie Heaslip and Ruan Pienaar's brace of penalties had put them into an early lead.

Early in the second half, Madigan crossed for an opportunistic try and Ulster prop Wiehahn Herbst's first try for the club narrowed Leinster's lead to 16-11.

Madigan then landed a fourth penalty and man-of-the-match Jack Conan touched down to give Leinster a comfortable win in the end.

Their victory was just the tonic they needed after last week's disappointing defeat at the hands of Munster and a fifth straight win over their provincial rivals.
