All Blacks legend Ma'a Nonu will make a return to Toulon after signing a new deal with the Top 14 club.

Nonu previously played for Toulon between 2015 and 2018 and featured in two finals in 2016 and 2017 but did not manage to end on the winning side. Following his stint with Toulon, the 38-year-old had a stint with Blues and then the Japanese side San Diego Legion in the 2020 pandemic coronavirus affected season.

The 38-year-old has been signed as an injury cover for the ongoing 2020/21 season following injuries to Anthony Belleau and Julien Hériteau.

“In order to compensate for the injuries of Anthony Belleau and Julien Hériteau, the sports staff and President Bernard Lemaitre contacted the New Zealand center," read a statement from Toulon.

“After three seasons spent in Toulon between 2015 and 2018, the All-Black with 104 selections has signed up as an additional player, to bring all his experience to the Red & Black three-quarter line.

The 6ft centre has played 103 Tests for New Zealand and is among the 20 players to have won dual World Cups when the All Blacks won the titles in the 2011 and 2015 editions.

Nonu will join the squad in the next few days in their training subject to his medical clearance. Toulon currently are at sixth place in the 2020/21 season of Top14 with a win and a defeat in the two games.
