Sale Sharks have announced the signing of prop Jacob Cooper-Woolley from Premiership rivals Wasps at the end of the ongoing season.

The 29-year-old was part of Harlequins Academy and joined Cardiff University to focus on his studies. His senior debut came with Cardiff Blues in 2010 and during his three-year stint with the Welsh regional side he also played for Bedwas RFC.

Cooper-Woolley was also the leading try-scorer when he led Cardiff University in the 2012 Welsh Varsity Match.

"I have had a fantastic six years at Wasps and I would like to thank all the coaches and especially Dai Young for the opportunities I have had there," he told the official website of Sale Sharks.

"However, I feel like the time is right for me to have a change in my career and after meeting with Dimes and Dorian West and learning about the club’s ambitions, Sale looks like a great opportunity for me to challenge myself in a new environment.

"The club are on the up and hopefully, I can play a big part in them having a successful future both domestically and in Europe".

Cooper-Woolley moved to Wasps in 2013 and has racked up 122 appearances for the English club including 91 games in the Premiership.

"It’s a pleasure to have Jake joining us, his vast experience and ability not only in the scrum but around the field will be a massive asset to the club in our desire to become a consistent top 4 contender in the Gallagher Premiership," said Sale Director of Rugby Steve Diamond.

Following their 24-18 win over defending Premiership champions Saracens, Sale Sharks are at fifth place in the table with 29 points.
