Leicester Tigers centre Solomone Kata has been handed a three-game suspension following his red card incident in the recently concluded Gallagher Premiership game against Northampton Saints.

The 29-year-old was sent-off in the 61st minute during the game for a dangerous tackle on Northampton's Fraser Dingwall as his side went on to lose the encounter 17-40.

Kata faced an independent disciplinary hearing and was proved guilty of the charges with the panel handing him a three match ban.

He will now miss Leicester's remaining three league games but his suspension can be reduced by a match if he applies to undertake a World Rugby coaching intervention programme.

Leicester Tigers are positioned eighth in the Gallagher Premiership table with eight wins from 15 matches.

Kata will miss the following games:

27 April vs Bristol Bears
3 May vs Georgia Black Lion
10 May vs Sale Sharks (subject to completion of CIP)
