Connacht lock Ultan Dillane will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing a surgery on his shoulder.

The 23-year-old sustained the blow during Ireland's Six Nations encounter against Italy at Stadio Olimpico in Round two and was subsequently ruled out of the remaining three games.

Following a consultation with a specialist, Dillane successfully underwent a surgery on his shoulder that will keep him out for the remainder of the ongoing season.

"Ultan Dillane underwent successful surgery on his shoulder and will be unavailable for the remainder of the season," Connacht announced in a statement.

Ireland's next assignment will be a two-Test series in Japan and Dillane will be desperately hoping to make the opportunity count in the absence of prominent members, who might be busy with the British and Irish Lions commitments.

Dillane has made 10 Test appearances for Joe Schmidt's men after making his debut in February last year..
