Hunter suffers injury setback

Former Edinburgh stand-off Gregor Hunter has signed a training contract with Glasgow despite being ruled out for another nine months after his knee injury flared up again.

Hunter suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage in August while playing for Hawick but has undergone further surgery after his return to pre-season training went wrong.

The 22-year-old former Scotland youth international, who made 16 appearances for Edinburgh, will undergo his rehabilitation with Glasgow Warriors while helping out at Glasgow Hawks off the field.

George Hunter and Will Bordill have also signed one-year training contracts with Glasgow after earlier agreeing playing deals with BT Premiership side Ayr.

Prop Hunter, 22, has been at Scotstoun for four years and spent time on loan at London Scottish last season, while 21-year-old flanker Bordill joined Glasgow from sale last summer. The pair will be available for selection for Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend.

Townsend said: "We are looking forward to seeing how they develop in our environment and also playing with their club sides in the BT Premiership when they're not involved with us.

"We know them well and they will add to the depth of our squad and we expect them to work hard to earn a place in the team and potentially a full-time professional contract next season.

"Unfortunately for Gregor he suffered a recurrence of a knee injury during our pre-season training and we're all really disappointed for Gregor that he's going to be spending some time on the sidelines.

"However, we will continue to support him through his rehab and he'll still have a big role to play at the club off the field."
