Sharks have announced the departure of head coach Robert du Preez from the Super Rugby club at the conclusion of the 2019 season.

Du Preez's association with Sharks began in 2016 when initially joined them as an assistant coach before taking in charge of the Durban outfit.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Sharks and I am proud of what we have achieved," he said.

"I would have loved to put more silverware in the cabinet, but sometimes injuries to key players, the bounce of the ball or decisions going against your team prevents that.

“I look forward to the next phase of my coaching career and wish the team well for the future. They can always count on my support.”

Sharks' campaign in the 2019 Super Rugby season came to an end in the quarter-finals when they were defeated by Brumbies 38-13.

Sharks CEO Gary Teichmann thanked du Preez for his contribution to the club and wished him good luck for his future endeavours.

“The Sharks thank Robert for his contribution over the past few years and what he managed to achieve by moulding a young group of players," he said.

"He leaves the Sharks with our good wishes for the next chapter in his coaching career,”
