Hartpury continue to march on

Hartpury College secured their sixth bonus point in succession to stay top and unbeaten in National One after victory over Hull Ionians.

The league leaders continue to impress as each week passes by and their perfect record was maintained on the weekend as they ran in six tries against to stay seven points clear at the top of National One.

The winning wagon also rolled on for Blackheath in Round Six as they moved up to third in the division following victory at home to bottom side Blaydon who are still without a win this campaign.

Fylde hosted the game of the weekend as a last minute try at Woodlands earned them a dramatic victory over Plymouth Albion. Elsewhere, Birmingham Moseley returned to winning ways in style while Loughborough Students and Rosslyn Park played out a draw in the Midlands.

Hartpury College 43-14 Hull Ionians

Hartpury College made it six wins in a row as they eased to victory against Hull Ionians in Gloucester.

John Barnes’ men were ahead at half-time thanks to a brace from Luke Eves and a penalty from Harry Randall versus Sam Wilson’s score.

Eves secured his hat-trick after the break before Steve Leonard (twice) and Jonas Mikalcius touched down to wrap up the win for the league leaders while Ben Winterburn’s late try was merely a consolation for Hull Ionians.

Birmingham Moseley 72-14 Cambridge

Birmingham Moseley got their National One campaign back on track as they trashed Cambridge at Billesley Common.

Kevin Maggs’ men ran in 11 tries with Drew Cheshire, Chris Brightwell and Mark Harrison all scoring twice for the home side.

Moseley found themselves 34 points up by half-time thanks to the doubles from Cheshire and Brightwell along with Harrison’s first score of the afternoon.

Alex Grove, Harrison and Greg King added tries after the break while Aaron Crofts, Ed Sheldon and Adam Caves completed the rout for Birmingham Moseley.

Cambridge’s tries came from Dave Langley and Matt Hema, but it was a miserable afternoon for Ross Stewart’s men who also had two players yellow-carded during the game.

Blackheath 59-17 Blaydon

Hooker Dan George scored a hat-trick to help Blackheath move up to third in National One as they scored eight tries on their way to victory against bottom of the league Blaydon.

Club were in front at half-time after two tries from George, with Mark Cooke adding the extras.

Jason Smithson struck back for Blaydon with a try just before the break, before George scored his third from close range following a yellow card to Scott Wilson.

Chris Wearmouth and Trevor Davison followed Wilson to the sin-bin as Blaydon were reduced to 13 men and Blackheath took full advantage as they were awarded a Penalty Try before Freddie Owen and Markus Burcham both touched down.

Tom Chapman and Jake Lloyd added further scores for the home side while James Cooney claimed some consolation for Blaydon with a try seven minutes from the end.

Macclesfield 12-28 Ampthill and District

Ampthill and District maintained their strong start to the National One season as they claimed their fifth win of the term away at Macclesfield.

Will Goodge, Kev Barrett and Ben Earl scored tries in the first half to put the A’s in control, while Stef Jones was ever-reliable with the boot.

Tom Morton claimed Macclesfield’s only points in the first half with a try, but the visitors extended their lead further just after the hour as Sam Baker dotted down.

Macc ended the game strongly and were rewarded with a late try from Ryan Parkinson, but it was once again another defeat for The Blues who are now winless in four matches.

Darlington Mowden Park 22-9 Old Albanian

A brace from Santiago Socino saw Darlington Mowden Park return to winning ways and remain unbeaten at home as they earned victory over the Old Albanian.

DMP were ahead at the break with Brandon Staples and Socino going over for the home side while Chris May slotted over a penalty for the OA’s.

Socino and Joe Craggs were both sent to the sin-bin either side of half-time for Darlington and Ben Palmer kicked the OA’s back into the contest.

However, DMP sparked back into life in the final 20 minutes and the catalyst came from a Caolan Ryan penalty before Socino grabbed his second try of the day which ultimately secured the win for the hosts.

Fylde 39-37 Plymouth Albion

Greg Smith scored a try in the final play of the game to give Fylde victory against Plymouth Albion in this National One thriller.

Plymouth Albion seemed set to grab a fourth straight win thanks to a late penalty from the boot of Kieran Hallet who kicked 22 points for the visitors.

But Fylde used their power up front which allowed Greg Nicholls to find Smith who darted over in the final minute of this pulsating encounter to snatch the victory for Paul Arnold’s pen.

Albion were narrowly ahead at half-time of this game with Hallett nudging over five penalties and Robin Wedlake-Millicam touching down for the visitors while Jack Turley David Fairbrother and George Nott all crossed for Fylde.

The hosts went ahead at the start of the second period through Anthony Bingham’s try, but a Penalty Try and a score from Michael Stupple put Albion back in front.

Smith and Hallett exchanged penalties as the game reached its climax with Albion now leading by three points before Fylde fly-half grabbed the headlines and the victory for his side with his late score.

Loughborough Students 26-26 Rosslyn Park

A late Josh Sharp penalty saw Loughborough Students claim a draw in an excellent game at home to Rosslyn Park.

Leading 20-3 thanks to tries from Harry Simmons and Mat Macpherson as well as 10 points via the boot of Sharp, the hosts saw their advantage disappear.

Henry Robinson and Stewart Maguire both went over with Scott Sneddon adding a penalty and a conversion to tie the game up in the second period.

Sharp kicked the home side back in front before another penalty and a drop goal from Sneddon gave Park the lead as the clock edged towards 80 minutes.

However, Sharp kept his cool to add another three points to his tally and claim a share of the points for Loughborough.

Esher 34-14 Coventry

Esher clinched their second win of the season thanks to this positive performance at home to Coventry.

After a Rhodri Adamson penalty, Cov’s James Stokes broke through the home defence to cross and give Rowland Winter’s side the early lead.

Tom James touched down to get Esher back in the game, before Adamson stretched Coventry’s advantage further with another penalty.

However, it was Esher who went into the break ahead as Peter Synnott went over before Adamson and James Lang exchanged penalties to give the hosts a three point lead.

After the interval, Tom Cheeseman and Tom Brown both dotted down for Esher and it was the home full-back Lloyd Davies that wrapped the game up as he landed a penalty late on to secure Esher a much needed victory.
