Glasgow Warriors head coach Dave Rennie says his team is determined to create history when they face Saracens in the quarter-final of the Heineken Champions Cup at Allianz Park on Saturday.

With 19 points from six games that includes four victories in the group stage, the Scotstoun Stadium outfit have progressed to the top eight but have never reached the semi-final in the history of the competition.

"It creates a little bit of history doesn't it? So it is always exciting to be part of," said Rennie.

"Obviously with us and Edinburgh both in the top eight it is already a good sign and I know both sides will be keen to kick on.

"We are excited to be in the competition still, we are going to back ourselves to go down there and really challenge them, but we know we will have to be good because they are a quality side".

However, Rennie is wary of the threat Saracens possess considering their only defeats in this season's competition have come against the Premiership side.

The first time these two teams met was at Scotstoun Stadium which was low-scoring encounter with the Sarries winning 3-13 but the game at Allianz Park dented the confidence of Rennie's men a bit as they went down 38-19. The Glasgow boss believes defence will hold the key on Saturday's high-profile encounter.

"We are well aware of what they bring. They are a very big team, very physical so we are going to have to be very disciplined because they have the ability to put you in a corner and strangle you.

"We are going to have to defend very well.

"I thought we defended very well the first time we played them here, not well enough when we played them down there and that hurt us in the end.

"But we have been in the game for 70 minutes both times so we have to be really clinical, take our opportunities and defend well."

The other quarter-final games scheduled sees Edinburgh taking on Munster while Leinster and Racing 92 host Ulster and Toulouse respectively.
