Trialists Sam Beard and Carl Bezuidenhout have played their way to full contracts with Edinburgh.

Centre Beard has completed a two-year deal, with South African Bezuidenhout signing one-year terms with the Scottish capital outfit.

Head coach Alan Solomons hailed the determination of both players in fighting for a future at the club.

New Zealander Beard joined Edinburgh from Bay of Plenty in November, making 13 appearances, and Solomons was quickly impressed.

"This is very good news for the club. Sam's a good bloke, a good team man and has fitted in very well here," said Solomons.

"He has got very good feet and has a good natural feel for the game.

"I think he has the potential to play a big part in our squad in the coming seasons.

Bezuidenhout pitched up at Edinburgh after helping the Pumas to an unbeaten Currie Cup championship-winning campaign.

The accurate goal-kicker has featured at fly-half and full-back, notching 51 points in 12 appearances.

"Carl's versatility offers a great deal to us," said Solomons.

He is equally comfortable at fly half, full-back and wing, and is an outstanding kicker, from hand and off the floor.

"He's endured a tough couple of months, having joined straight from a strenuous Currie Cup winning season, and I feel that he deserves this opportunity to prepare appropriately and play a full season in order to show what he can do."
