Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) announced on Thursday that Ireland lock Devin Toner has signed a three-year contract extension that will keep him with the 2015 Six Nations champions until 2020.

The news was confirmed jointly by IRFU and also his club Leinster, who also have secured his contract for three more years.

After making his debut in November 2010 against Samoa in Dublin, Toner has gone on to play for Ireland 42 times and has scored two tries. He was also part of the 2014 and 2015 Six Nations winning Ireland teams and also represented Joe Schmidt's men in their recent win over New Zealand and Australia.

He also had a good amount of success with Leinster and was a part of European Cup and PRO12 title winning teams.

IRFU performance director David Nucifora said: "Devin is a top-class international second-row and has grown into a leader for both Ireland and Leinster.

"His performances for Ireland over the past number of seasons have been outstanding, and he continues to show growth and an appetite to develop his game."

Toner expressed his delight in extending his stay with both Ireland as well as Leinster.

"I am delighted to have re-signed with the IRFU and Leinster.

"There is a huge amount of talent coming through at Leinster, and it is a really exciting time to be involved with the province.

"T here is a real opportunity to be successful at both provincial and national level over the coming years, and I look forward to playing a part in helping to achieve that success."
