The Rugby Football Union has confirmed that Sale Sharks winger Byron McGuigan will appear before a disciplinary panel on Wednesday following his red card in the recently concluded Aviva Premiership encounter against Worcester Warriors.

The 28-year-old was sin-binned in the 30th minute of the game for a deliberate knock-on Chris Pennell's attempted pass and collected his second yellow card in the 65th minute for a tip tackle on Bryce Heem leading to a red card.

"Byron McGuigan of Sale Sharks has been charged with acts contrary to good sportsmanship," read an RFU statement.

"The case will be dealt with on papers on Wednesday evening by a panel including Aidan O'Brien (chairman), Becky Essex and Tim Grey."

Despite losing McGuigan, Sale Sharks went on to beat Worcester Warriors 14-18 following a 69th minute try from replacement Mark Jennings.

Sale Sharks are currently positioned ninth in the table with four wins from 10 games.
