Blues sign up three more for 2014/15

Bedford Blues have continued to add to their squad for the 2014/15 Greene King IPA Championship season by signing two new players as well as extending the stay of a front row favourite.

Tighthead prop Phil Boulton has signed a new 12 month contract at Goldington Road while the Blues also welcome back former centre Henry Staff from Rosslyn Park as well as clinching the signing of prop Camilo Parilli-Ocampo from Ealing Trailfinders.

Boulton, 27, has been a mainstay of the Bedford front row since signing from fellow Championship side Rotherham Titans back in 2008. The former Nuneaton man, who also played for the Leicester Tigers Academy, has developed a fine reputation for his scrummaging skills and is more than happy to stand in at scrum half should the need arise.

Staff, 23, is a familiar name in Bedford after he first joined the club from Premiership giants Saracens in 2011. The former Bedford Modern schoolboy and Ampthill Colt had an excellent first season with the Blues despite serious injury early on in his tenure. Staff's second season was also blighted with injury but after an impressive year with Rosslyn Park, where he helped up to second in National One scoring four tries along the way, he returns to Goldington Road looking to continue his rich vein of form.

Parilli-Ocampo, 24, is another impressive young prop who benefited hugely from a spell in the Leicester Tigers Academy where he was influenced massively by former Blue Dan Cole and Italian legend Martin Castrogiovanni. Standing at 6ft 2ins tall and tipping the scales at 120kg, this Londoner, whose father is Italian-Venezuelan and his mother Colombian-Spanish, is sure to bring plenty of fire power to the Bedford front row.

Speaking about the new signings, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: "We said a while ago that we had identified a number of key areas that needed strengthening for the coming campaign and I'm delighted that our recruitment process is progressing well with the addition of three more players to the squad for next season.

"Phil has been a tremendous servant for us over the past six years and he will have plenty of competition to deal with once we finalise our squad. Henry has had a very good year in National One and understands how we operate. He recognised that he needed to play regular rugby and his time at Rosslyn Park has put him in a position to step back up and he will no doubt bring a renewed energy and enthusiasm with him.

"Camilo is also someone with real potential and a hunger for a chance to develop and establish himself at the Club. He is a powerful unit who has good pedigree from his time at Leicester Tigers and we are all looking forward to seeing what he can do in a Bedford Blues shirt.”

Phil, Henry and Camilo join new signings Billy Moss, Justin Blanchet, Harry Wells, Dean Adamson and Jim Wigglesworth in the squad for next season along with captain James Pritchard, Mike Le Bourgeois and Patrick Tapley who all have another year on their contracts. Other members of the current Blues squad who have penned new deals include Joe Vandermolen, Charlie Clare, Darryl Veenendaal, Paul Tupai, Ollie Dodge, Jake Sharp and Mike Howard.
