Blues managed to resist a late surge from Waratahs as they sealed a 33-40 victory in their Super Rugby encounter at Allianz Stadium on Saturday.

As Waratahs failed to score any point in the first half, Reiko Ioane and Scott Scrafton scored a try each while Piers Francis contributed with conversions on both the occasions and added four more penalties as well to take Blues to 26 point lead.

Waratahs showed more intent at the start of the second half with Israel Folau and Tolu Latu strolling past the post but Reiko and Akira Ioane replied back with tries of their own to maintain a 28 point lead.

The hosts dominated the final 15 minutes with a converted try from Bernard Foley while Folau danced past the post for the second time in the game to reduce the trail to 14 points. Despite, replacement Paddy Ryan going past the line in the final minute, Waratahs succumbed to a seven point defeat.
