Black Ferns head coach Glenn Moore has announced his resignation from the role following 'allegations' made on him by a player which sparked a review in the team's culture.

The review was launched after New Zealand hooker Te Kura Ngata-Aerengamate, who went to the social media in December that she had suffered a mental breakdown after alleged critical comments from Moore.

Even though he was backed by the New Zealand board to remain on the role through to the Rugby World Cup scheduled later in the year, Moore felt the process will be a distraction to the side's preparations.

"I remain concerned that the prolonged Cultural & Environmental Review continues to be distracting at a time when all focus needs to be on maximising performance," said Moore.

"I feel it is in the best interests of the team that I step down."

The 62-year-old also denied the allegations made by Ngata-Aerengamate.

"I did not agree with the allegations she made, and they were misleading. The post provided no context and unfairly and inaccurately represented me as a coach and a person," Moore said.

"My values and beliefs were called into question, and it was very disappointing not only to me but also to my family," he added.

Moore had been with New Zealand since 2015 replacing Greg Smith and guided them to a World Cup triumph in 2017.
