Bath number eight Alfie Barbeary has been handed a three-game ban following his red card incident in the recently concluded Investec Champions Cup game against Racing 92.

The 23-year-old was initially sin-binned in the 6th minute when he made direct shoulder contact to the chin of Max Spring and received his second yellow card in the closing stage for a forearm collision on Nolann Le Garrec.

Despite his absence, the Premiership side went on to win the encounter with a 29-25 margin as they reached the knock out stage of the competition for the first time since 2015.

He faced an independent disciplinary hearing and was initially handed a six week ban that was reduced by half taking into account his guilty plea, conduct during hearing and other mitigating factors.

Barbeary's suspension can still be reduced by a week, if he successfully completes World Rugby’s coaching intervention course which could see him making a return on 29th January.

He will now miss the upcoming Champions Cup game against Toulouse on 21st January followed by the Premiership encounter against Bristol Bears on 27th January.
