Stannard left hospital on Sunday morning and Ben Whitaker, a general manager at Australian rugby’s governing body, said that he was an “extremely important” part of the squad and they had been left “shocked” by what had happened.
Thinking of our mate @chuckystannard tonight as he recovers in the good care of doctors and nurses at St Vincent’s. Thoughts are also very much Kim, Layla, Zara, Mark, Sharron and the extended Stannard family. Stay strong Chucky ????????????

Whitaker stated “They did what they had to do, such an unfortunate incident and something they had to do due to the state James was in,”
Stannard was appointed skipper of Australia’s Commonwealth Games side after the previous Captain, Holland, pulled out because of an injury.
