Leicester Tigers centre Manu Tuilagi's chances of making an England comeback has taken a fresh blow following his latest injury setback during the Aviva Premiership contest against Wasps on Sunday.

The 26-year-old, whose career has been marred by series of injuries last played for the red rose team in March 2016 and featured in just 12 minutes before he sustained a chest injury and was replaced by Mathew Tait during the Welford Road encounter.

Immediately after the blow, Tuilagi signalled to the medical team that he could not continue playing and is now set to undergo a scan for further assessment.

Leicester head coach Matt O'Connor said the injury looked serious initially but later Tuilagi started to feel better in the changing room.

"He's got a pec issue,"O'Connor told reporters. 'He was pretty adamant he couldn't continue, so from that point we know there's something wrong with Manu.

"But he was pretty confident in the changing room it's not a massive issue."

Leicester Tigers with a 16-15 win over Wasps moved fifth in the Aviva Premiership table with 51 points from 18 games.
