Bath Rugby have announced the signing of former Wasps back row Alfie Barbeary on a long-term contract.

Barbeary had been with Wasps since his professional rugby debut and has scored 10 tries in 26 league outings since 2019. He was called up to England's training squads previously but is yet to feature at the international level.

The 22-year-old's contract with Wasps became redundant since the Coventry based club entered into administration.

He is currently recovering from a hamstring injury and will undergo rehabilitation with the expectation that he will be featuring later in the season.

“Alfie is a fantastic young rugby player who will add a different dimension to our back row,” Head of Rugby Johann van Graan said.

“He has excellent ball-carrying ability and will provide us with momentum on the gainline. He has a number of great qualities which will complement our pack and he has an appetite to improve and contribute to Bath Rugby over the coming years.

“We are really excited to have Alfie on board for the next step of our journey.”

Bath are positioned eighth in the Gallagher Premiership table with three wins from eight matches.
