Wasps have confirmed the signing of Alex Gray and Tommy Mathews on short-term deals.

A product of Newcastle Academy, Gray made his debut with the Falcons in 2010 and also had stints with London Irish and Yorkshire Carnegie before switching to National Football League side Atlanta Falcons. He returned to rugby union in 2020 signing a contract with Bath Rugby and also had represented England Under 20 and England Sevens sides.

"I am really excited to get the opportunity to train and play with Wasps," he told in a statement released by Wasps.

"I’ve enjoyed some great battles with Wasps over the years and I’m looking forward to having the Wasps players and fans on my side now."

Meanwhile, Mathews began playing rugby at Petersfield Rugby Club aged 9 before joining Northampton Saints Academy in 2019. He went on to win the AASE League with Hartpury College and made his Saints debut in the Premiership Cup.

"I’d like to thank Hartpury for giving me the opportunity to join Wasps," he told.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Wasps so far and I can’t wait to keep contributing to the Club as much as I can over the next few weeks."

Wasps are positioned ninth in the Gallagher Premiership table with two wins from four games and will face Saracens next on 24th October at StoneX Stadium.
