Moana Pasifika have unveiled the signing of Wallabies playmaker Christian Lealiifano ahead of the inaugural season of the Super Rugby Pacific.

“As someone who was raised a proud Samoan, there is massive appeal in playing for a team that celebrates my heritage, and my culture,” he said.

Lealiifano has signed a one-year contract with the club as he makes a return to Super Rugby after previously racking up over 150 appearances for Brumbies.

His stint with Brumbies came to an end as he was diagnosed with leukaemia but after successful recovery, he signed for Irish Pro14 and European Rugby Champions Cup side Ulster on a loan deal and also had stints with Japanese sides Toyota Industries Shuttles and Shining Arcs.

He also featured in 26 Tests for the Wallabies since his international debut in 2013 and was last seen during the 2019 World Cup.= where the Wallabies reached quarter-final.

“Christian is one of those unbelievable players who oozes class as a footy player and a man,” Moana Pasifika coach Aaron Mauger said.

“How he sees the game, how he plays the game and the level of professionalism and leadership he brings will play a huge part in our growth as a team and the development of the players around him.”
