Wales head coach Warren Gatland revealed that lock Cory Hill is likely to be ruled out of the remainder of World Cup after failing to recover from a fractured leg.

The 27-year-old has been sidelined since the Six Nations tournament earlier in February but despite that he was included in the World Cup squad with a hope he will be playing some part in the showpiece event.

When asked if Hill is likely to head back home, Gatland said: "Possibly."

"In terms of fitness he will go back to the UK if he is not right. We will assess him tomorrow and just see what progress he has made and how his injury is.

"If it is not good news then he will go back. If they think they can get him to recover then he will stay out. We are just going to assess it overnight."

With Adam Beard also is set to miss the next game against Australia, Wales assistant coach Robin McBryde said Ospreys second row Bradley Davies is a likely contender to be part of the squad.

"He would be the natural choice because he's spent that time with us," said McBryde.

Wales currently are at the top of the Pool D table following their 14-43 victory over Georgia in Aichi on Monday.
