Wales have been dealt a blow ahead of the Six Nations tournament with fly-half Gareth Anscombe set to miss the start of the competition.

Anscombe sustained a shoulder injury during Wales' last autumn international game against Australia and is set to be sidelined for a considerable amount of period.

The news was confirmed by Ospreys head coach Toby Booth.

“I don’t know the answer to how long Gareth will be out, but it is unlikely he will be able to play at the start of the Six Nations,” said Booth.

“He’s got a should blade injury similar to the one that Justin Tipuric suffered. He’s a resilient guy and we just want to get him back playing as quickly as possible.”

Earlier, the Welsh Rugby Union replaced Wayne Pivac with Warren Gatland as their new head coach with the World Cup scheduled next year in France.

Wales will kick-start their Six Nations campaign with a clash against Ireland to be played on 4th February.
