Ospreys have announced that Welsh international Gareth Anscombe has signed a one-year contract extension with the province.

Having started his professional rugby career with provincial side Auckland in 2010 and went on to represent Super Rugby sides Blues and Chiefs. He made a switch to Welsh regional side Cardiff Blues in 2014 before joining Ospreys in 2019.

After spending two years on the sidelines due to injury, Anscombe made his club debut against Northampton Saints in 2021. He has made 14 appearances for the club scoring 113 points.

The 31-year-old made his Wales debut in August 2015 and has been featured in 31 Tests including two appearances in the 2015 World Cup.

“Getting back playing was my primary focus and with the help of my family, friends and the medical team and the strength and conditioning staff at the Ospreys, that was achieved," he told the club's official website.

“Towards the end of the recent URC campaign I really felt I was making the contribution I wanted to on the field. It’s been a tough road but to get back doing what I love was always the target.

“Delivering Heineken Cup Champions rugby for a second season for the Ospreys shows the potential we have in the squad. We are all excited about what we can achieve next season.”
