Scorecard

A clinical first half performance saw Wales edge South Africa 20-11 in their November series campaign at Principality Stadium on Saturday.

The result means Wales end their autumn internationals with four wins from as many games after previously defeating Tonga, Australia and Scotland.

The opening try in the game came in the 10th minute when Ellis Jenkins offloaded to Tomas Francis, who went over the line and Gareth Anscombe slotted the conversion to provide Wales a seven point lead.

Gatland's side went on to double their lead in the 16th minute when a long pass from Anscombe was collected by Liam Williams as he crossed over. Anscombe once again kicked the extras but just at the end of the first quarter, Handre Pollard with a penalty goal got South Africa off the mark.

Both the teams had their chances to add to their tally before the half-time but Pollard's kick in the 25th minute and Anscombe's shot at the goal in the 30th minute went off target. South Africa continued to attack but their efforts did not get the points they were desperately hoping for.

In the 38th minute Embrose Papier breached the defence of Wales as he raced to the try line but only to be knocked on. Immediately, Jesse Kriel made efforts to go over the try but was disallowed as the TMO said there was no conclusive replays of him grounding the ball.

The Boks finally managed a breakthrough when Kriel found a strong pass from Duane Vermeulen to stroll over the line. The conversion was missed but Elton Jantjies kicked a penalty as the gap came down to 14-11.

Dan Biggar, who replaced Anscombe in the 63rd minute provided Wales with a breathing space with back to back penalties in the 69th and 72nd minutes to complete a nine-point win for Gatland's side.
