Winger Tim Visser is set to miss Scotland's first three RBS 6 Nations fixtures having been injured whilst appearing for club side Harlequins.

The 28-year-old wing limped off having suffered a hamstring strain during Quins' Premiership draw with Gloucester last weekend.

The former Edinburgh back back now faces between six and eight weeks on the sidelines.

The best case scenario for both player and country would see Visser sit out of Scotland's opening Six Nations clash with England on February 6 at Murrayfield and Wales' visit to Edinburgh a week later.

However depending on the injury's severity the Quins flyer could also miss the Dark Blues' trip to Italy on February 26.

Dutch-born Visser has played in 23 Tests for his adopted country, and made two appearances at this year's Rugby World Cup.

His injury comes just a week after Scotland head coach Vern Cotter lost the services of Glasgow lock Rob Harley to a thumb injury.
