George Lowe signs new Harlequins contract

Harlequins centre George Lowe has signed a new deal at the Aviva Premiership club.

The 26-year-old has made 128 appearances for Harlequins, scoring 27 tries, and has battled back over the last 12 months from a career-threatening neck injury.

Lowe, who was called up for England's 2012 tour to South Africa, spent 13 months in intensive recovery after being injured against Saracens in 2013 and returned to competitive rugby in October 2014.

"I am really pleased to have committed my future to Harlequins; my decision to stay was a quick and easy one," Lowe told the official club website.

"The club and its supporters really helped me during my long-term injury and it's something I'm truly grateful for.

"I want to repay the faith and support they gave me by helping this club push for more silverware both domestically and in Europe.

"The squad we have is hugely exciting and I'm looking forward to being a part of it for the next few years."

The length of Lowe's new contract has not been disclosed but Harlequins director of rugby Conor O'Shea said: "George is the epitome of what you understand a team player to be.

"Injury cost him on his rise to the top, but the way he is playing now, and at the age of 26, George should in no way, shape or form limit his ambition.

"The wider group owe him and if the group delivers, George will get the recognition he deserves."

Lowe's new deal comes on the back of Super Rugby-winning back row Beau Robinson signing for Harlequins as injury dispensation cover for Fiji international Netani Talei.
