Toyota Cheetahs secure signing of former Springbok scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar

Free State Cheetahs have confirmed the signing of former South Africa international Ruan Pienaar ahead of the upcoming 2019/20 season.

The 35-year-old started his career in Currie Cup for Sharks in 2004 with his Super Rugby debut coming a year later. Overall, he has featured in 32 Currie Cup games and 67 Super Rugby matches for Sharks.

With close to six years with the South African side, the 35-year-old moved to Ulster in 2010 and was named the captain of the Irish club in the 2011/12 season.

Pienaar will now return back to the South African province from Montpellier which he joined in 2017 and brings in a lot of international experience having featured in 88 Tests for the Springboks since his debut in 2006 and last played for them during the 2015 World Cup.

The Cheetahs on their official website have confirmed that Pienaar has signed a two-year deal with the club.
