Toulon have announced the signing of former Wales skipper Alun Wyn Jones as a cover during the upcoming Rugby World Cup.

Jones had a stellar 17-year career with Ospreys starting from 2005 announced his exit from the Welsh province at the end of the 2022/23 season. He is also the most-capped player in international rugby having featured for Wales 158 times and another 12 matches for the British and Irish Lions.

Nevertheless, he announced retirement from international rugby in May months ahead of the Rugby World Cup alongside Justin Tipuric.

Toulon director of rugby Pierre Mignoni confirmed that Jones will join the club as a medical joker throughout the showpiece event to be held in France as the Top 14 competition kicks-off in August.

“We are delighted and honoured to welcome a legendary player like Alun Wyn Jones to Toulon. His career demonstrates his immense talent.

“His experience, his mental and physical strength as well as his leadership will add to the locker room and to his team-mates.”
