South Africa international Lukhanyo Am has been appointed as the captain of Sharks for the upcoming season of Super Rugby.

Am has been with Sharks since 2016 and has represented them both at Currie Cup and Super Rugby. On his debut season, he helped Sharks to quarter-finals in Super Rugby.

“It is a huge honour and privilege to be chosen to lead this team of brothers," he told the official website of the club.

"We have an exciting new squad of players and management, who are eager to make their mark and to see us grow as a group. We will all be working together with positivity and eagerness, making sure the team always comes first.”

The 26-year-old made his Test debut for Springboks in 2017 and has gone on to play 15 Tests in which he scored three tries. He also enjoyed World Cup title with South Africa in the recently concluded edition in Japan.

Sharks will kick-start their 2020 Super Rugby season with a clash against Bulls at Jonsson Kings Park on 31st January.
