Cheetahs 30-38 Sharks, Toyota Stadium
Scorecard

Sharks continued their winning streak as they resisted Cheetahs to win their Super Rugby clash at Toyota Stadium by 30-38 on Saturday.

Fly-half Fred Zeilinga got Cheetahs off the mark with a fourth minute penalty but wing Lwazi Mvovo responded with a try of his own two minutes later while number 10 Curwin Bosch added the extras to take Sharks to a four point lead.

With a penalty and a try from Jacobus Van Wyk, the lead for the visitors climbed to 12 points before Francois Venter went past the line and Zeilinga added a conversion followed by a penalty to bring down the gap to two points. A cross from JW Jonker at the stroke of half-time saw Cheetahs claim a lead of five points at the end of the first half.

Zeilinga continued his good run and kicked his third penalty at the start of the second half to increase the lead to eight points but Sharks bounced back hard with Van Wyk scoring his second try and Daniel du Preez sealed a bonus point with his touchdown in the 66th minute.

Bosch was impressive in the second half as he kicked 13 points himself to put Sharks 15 points clear heading into the final 10 minutes. Even though wing Raymond Rhule replied back with a try in the 79th minute but could not prevent his team succumbing to an eight point defeat.

Sharks are positioned third in Africa 2 conference while Cheetahs are second in Africa 1 conference despite the defeat.
