Scotland 14-9 Argentina, Murrayfield Stadium
Scorecard

A second half try from Sean Maitland proved vital as Scotland managed to edge past Argentina in their final autumn international game at Murrayfield Stadium on Saturday.

The result also means Gregor Townsend's men finished the end of the year series with two wins from four games with the other victory coming against Fiji while Argentina could not quite replicate their form from the Rugby Championship as they lost their games against France and Scotland prior to this encounter.

Both the sides were poor in error handling but it proved costly for Argentina more as they missed four penalty attempts. Greig Laidlaw got the first points on the board with a fourth minute penalty goal but the Pumas missed a chance to level the scores after Nicolas Sanchez's kick went wide five minutes later.

The second chance for the visitors came in the 22nd minute when Emiliano Boffelli long-range kick once again missed the goal as Argentina continued to trail by three points. Nevertheless, six minutes later Sanchez managed to get a three-pointer through as the scores were levelled.

Laidlaw provided Scotland with a slender advantage of three-point lead with a 33rd minute penalty kick after Sanchez was penalised at breakdown. The teams headed into the break with a 6-3 scoreline.

Argentina were quick to get off the block in the second half with Sanchez's second penalty kick saw them level the scores before Laidlaw restored Scotland the three-point lead with his third penalty kick in the 56th minute. There was some relief for the Dark Blues as the opening try of the game finally came in the 66th minute when Sean Maitland went over the line but Laidlaw missed on the conversion.

A late 75th minute penalty from Sanchez got Argentina to a five point trail and despite Laidlaw missing another penalty Scotland completed a 14-9 victory.
