Saracens were barely troubled on their way to an emphatic victory over Toulouse in Pool One of the European Champions Cup at Allianz Park.

REACTION - Saracens boss Mark McCall

"We have got to be delighted with how we played in that first half. I thought it was outstanding.

"Sometimes, the frustration of the last 25 or 30 minutes can make you disregard some of the really good things you did.

"I thought the first half was magnificent.

"Our energy was brilliant, our defence was brilliant and our attack was really good. We probably left a couple of tries out there in the first 20 minutes of the match.

"I thought their substitutions made a difference in the second half.

"Clearly, the set-piece was the issue. We had three set-pieces five metres from their line and we came away with nothing from those, and we got penalised regularly at the scrum in the last 25 minutes, which ultimately stopped us getting a bonus point.

"But I don't want that to get in the way of some of the really good things and some of the very good performances that there were."

England's Owen Farrell kicked 17 points as the home side beat four-time European champions Toulouse 32-7, Chris Wyles scoring two tries and Mako Vunipola one.

Less than 24 hours after the horrific terror attacks in Paris that left more than 120 dead, Toulouse players looked as if their minds were elsewhere - quite understandably.

They were the only French team in Champions Cup action since the attacks, with games scheduled to be hosted by Racing 92, Oyonnax, Bordeaux-Begles and Toulon all postponed by tournament organisers European Professional Club Rugby and French domestic chiefs Ligue Nationale de Rugby.

Nevertheless, the game was on, and it was Saracens who took charge of the pool with a dominant display ahead of a trip to Ulster on Friday.

They may be frustrated not to have picked up a bonus point and all five points on offer given that their third try came after just 42 minutes.

However, they can be satisfied in handing Toulouse their biggest European defeat since Ulster beat them 30-3 in 2006, despite the visitors scoring a try through substitute hooker Christopher Tolofua which scrum-half Sebastien Bezy converted.

Several Toulouse players were close to tears during a minute's silence before the kick-off and La Marseillaise, the French national anthem rang out around North London on a wet and windy evening.

Saracens quickly moved through the gears despite the conditions, and were 13-0 up in just 15 minutes.

Farrell kicked two short-range penalties then Saracens created space for Vunipola to charge over for a try that Farrell converted.

Toulouse were pinned back and unable to get out of their half and as they struggled to maintain discipline, the boot of Farrell punished them with two more penalties.

Ex-Saracens prop Census Johnston was sin-binned for a technical offence at a lineout and another penalty from Farrell made things even worse for the visitors.

With the numerical advantage, Saracens added a try when Wyles finished impressively in the corner following slick midfield passing, putting the home team 27-0 up at half-time.

There was no respite early in the second half as Wyles touched down after just two minutes, although they slowly gained some momentum to prevent a complete rout.

After losing their former England fly-half Toby Flood with a hand injury, Tolofua touched down in the 51st minute and Bezy added the extras.

The final 20 minutes saw Saracens pushing for the bonus point, but they lacked continuity after a number of substitutions while Toulouse improved their defensive work.
