Hooker Ross Ford and lock Jonny Gray face a nervous wait to find out if they will feature in Scotland's World Cup quarter-final against Australia after being cited for dangerous tackles against Samoa.

Independent citing commissioner Scott Nowland has charged both with committing an act of alleged foul play during the Pool B clash in Newcastle, which Scotland won 36-33 to seal their place in the last eight.

Ford is charged with breaching the rules on dangerous tackles while Gray stands accused of committing an illegal tip tackle during the match at St. James Park.

Their fate will be decided by independent Judicial Officer Christoper Quinlan QC of England at a hearing on Tuesday morning in London.

Coach Vernon Cotter will be desperate for both to be available as both are key members of his pack as Scotland prepare for a first World Cup quarter-final since 2007.

Meanwhile, Australian flanker David Pocock has been given a warning for kneeing Wales hooker Scott Baldwin in the midriff during his side's 15-6 win in the Pool A decider at Twickenham.

He is free to play although may still end up missing the match after picking up a calf injury in the second half.
