Number eight Amanaki Mafi has been voted as the Melbourne Rebels' Player of the Year by his team-mates following his impressive performances in the 2017 season.

The 27-year-old edged out Colby Fainga’a, Marika Koroibete, Reece Hodge and Tom English to become the fifth consecutive backrower to claim the award.

Mafi is second in the list of most carries (196) behind Chief's Damian McKenzie this season and also features in the top 10 metres covered (990), offloads (24) and tackles (145) made.

The Japan international was only the third player in the squad to feature in all the games and the only player to poll votes in every round this season.

Meanwhile, English went on to pick the Spirit of Weary Dunlop Award while Rookie of the Year goes to Fereti Sa’aga. Marika Koroibete cross over in Round 14 against Crusaders at AAMI Park won him the Try of the Year Award.

Rebels had a disappointing season after they finished last in Australian Conference after managing a solitary victory in 15 games.
