Chief Executive Officer of Premiership Rugby Mark McCafferty is set to be part of the Rugby Expo 2016 at Ricoh Arena in Coventry on the 3rd November as professional rugby in England completes 20 years.

The national leagues in England turned professional for the first time during the 1996/97 season and later was revamped with the Premiership title in the early 2000. McCafferty, joined in the top post of the Premiership Rugby in 2005 taking over from Howard Thomas and played a major role in making the competition an influential one among the world competitions.

Rugby Expo which is one of the largest conference focussed on club rugby will see McCafferty in discussion on a wide-range of topics with the conference moderator Kevin Roberts.

The Expo will also have a one-hour session of ‘Club Council’ which will feature Heath Harvey, chief executive of Aviva Premiership and European champions Saracens and Nathan Bombrys, managing director of Guinness Pro12 winners Glasgow along with David Armstrong of Wasps and Mike Rush of St Helens Rugby League club.

Rugby Expo event director Jonathan Wilson expressed delight at McCafferty joining the event and lauded the progress made by the clubs in the last 20 years.

“We’re delighted to welcome Mark McCafferty back to the Rugby Expo stage on the 20th anniversary of professional rugby union. The superb surroundings of the Ricoh Arena under the ownership of Wasps, provide an appropriate reminder of just how far the spectacle, presentation and business of the sport have changed during that time and we are looking forward to sharing mark’s insight into the development of the game up to this point and in the years ahead."

“With such a strong speaker line-up and so many critical topics to discuss, Rugby Expo 2016 looks set to be the most informative and insightful to date.”

The Expo will begin with incoming World Rugby Chairman Bill Beaumont speaking about the success of Rugby Sevens at the recently concluded Rio Olympics while Sky Sports head Barney Francis will also discuss on the relationship with media and the sport. While the first day of the Expo focusses on professional rugby, the second day will concentrate on community and clubs at the grass root level.
