And while they were able to defend their title, there was a new winner of the Crest Na Iri Trophy for the women as TFL Fijiana Mokosoi defeated USA Serevi Selects 36-10.

Both champion sides were awarded $20,000, and Police captain Livai Ikanikoda was delighted with the result.

"We sacrificed during the festive season, we trained hard and that helped us go back to back," he said.

"We followed what our coach, Etonia Naba, told us and it was great to have Sevanaia Nadruku, the player of the tournament, in our squad.

"We hope Ben Ryan will pick some players from the Police after this result."

National coach Ryan was among the crowd of more than 5,000.

Police reached the final by producing an excellent defensive display in their 15-5 semi-final win over Tabadamu; it was also close for the Wardens, who beat Coastal Ratu Filise 7-5.

Sevuloni Tawake opened the scoring for Wardens in the final but Police came back with four unanswered tries to pull out a healthy margin.

Kini Douglas, Kepeni Paul, Meli Kurisaru and Tomoci Ratulolo all crossed and although Manueli Lagai was later sent off, Police held on, Wardens crossing for a late consolation try.

Sevanaia Nadruka was awarded the Campese-Serevi medal for player of the tournament - handed to him by Serevi himself - while TFL Fijiana's Lavenia Tinai won the Jonah Lomu Medal for top try-scorer after touching down seven times.

In the women's final the Mokosoi side, including Tinai, Asinate Suvu and Tima Ravisa, comfortably beat the USA side thanks to tries from Tinai (2), Ravisa (2), Savu and Mateiwai.

They had earlier beaten defending champions Aussie Pearls 24-19 in their semi-final while the Serevi Selects beat Tagimoucia, the other TFL Fijiana selection, 32-7.

BLK First Landing, Yamacia, Red Rock, Striders and the Central Chiefs won the other trophies on finals day.
