Northampton Saints have confirmed the signing of Piers Francis ahead of the next season.

Te 26-year-old will make a switch from the Super Rugby side Blues, which he joined in 2016 and also has the experience of playing for Edinburgh Rugby and Doncaster Knights between 2012 and 2015.

Francis, who was a member of Saracens Academy moved to New Zealand at the age of 18 and is expected to be part of the Blues side that will take on the visiting British and Irish Lions team in June.

Northampton Saints rugby director Jim Mallinder had high praises for Francis, who can play at fly-half or centre.

"Piers is a player who has been very impressive over the past couple of years," said Mallinder to the club's official website.

"He is a very good playmaker who is comfortable with ball in hand, but who can also control a match with his kicking game, too.

"He has all the talent and temperament that it takes to be a success in the Premiership, and we are looking forward to him joining us later in the year."

Northampton Saints are positioned sixth in this season's Aviva Premiership after winning nine out of the 17 games.
