Northampton Saints have confirmed that centre Joel Matavesi will join the Gallagher Premiership club on a short-term contract.

A product of Exeter Chiefs Academy, the 25-year-old started his career for Cambourne and made a switch to Ospreys before returning to Cornwall to represent Redruth in National Two South.

His breakthrough to Gallagher Premiership level came in 2017 when he made the switch to Newcastle Falcons, and Matavesi made five first-team appearances for the Kingston Park side, scoring one try on his league debut against Sale Sharks in 2021.

He also had a successful trial period with Northampton Saints and featured in four Championship appearances for Bedford Blues.

Meanwhile, the club also confirmed wing Dani Long-Martinez has been released from his contract by mutual consent.

Having previously represented Norwich School and Holt RFC, Long-Martinez featured heavily for Saints’ Under-18 side during the 2019/20 season, top scoring across the Academy League campaign, and at the 2019 Premiership Rugby 7s competition, prior to signing a full-time deal at cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens.

Northampton Saints are positioned eighth in the Gallagher Premiership table with nine wins from 18 games and will be facing London Irish in the next round at Brentford Community Stadium on 26th March.
